Business 1B - Spring 2024: Prof. Mikkelsen: Boolean Operators/Using Keywords

Boolean Operators/Combining Keywords-Searching in Databases

Boolean operators help you with searching in our database. I have 4 of them below (the first 3 the most popular) with examples. Remember to keep your search terms simple to just the keywords that relate to the subject of your research and you should be able to find good articles/resources when searching databases (Google uses Boolean operators in their Advanced Search area)

Quotation Marks: To search multiple worded search terms together.

"Monterey Peninsula College"
"Alvarado Street Brewing"
"Accounts Receivable"

AND: To tell the database that these search terms must appear in your results and to help you narrow your search.

Coffee and Retail
"Monterey County" and Wine and Marketing

OR: When you want to search for either term and help expand your search.

marketing or promotion

NOT: When you want to exclude a term from your search results
